The mission of the Interfaith Association of Central Ohio (IACO) is to build a multi-faith community which fosters harmony, appreciation, and respect among different faiths.

 

The purposes of the Interfaith Association of Central Ohio are:

  • To create an interreligious community based on understanding, friendship and trust.
  • To educate adherents and the public about customs and practices of faith traditions.
  • To provide interfaith public worship and ceremonies expressing local and global concerns.
  • To promote social justice, peace and human dignity.

 

2008 Accomplishments:

  • Children of Abraham exhibit toured a mosque, synagogue, two churches, and a North American Islamic conference attended by over 20,000 persons (Aug-Sep)
  • Educational Forums on Practicing Religion in America Today (May), Struggles and Challenges of Abraham (Sep), & Negotiating Conflict in a Global Community (Dec)
  • Interfaith Youth Film Festival at Columbus Public Library (Jan)
  • Sponsored two Central Ohio young adults to attend the Face to Face / Faith to Faith peaceful intervention two-week summer intensive retreat at Auburn Theological Seminary in New York with participants from United States, Israel, Palestine, South Africa and Northern Ireland (Jul)
  • Annual Interfaith Main Event Luncheon with Professor Susan Huntington on Understanding Religion Through Art (Oct)
  • Interfaith Memorial Service for Homeless (Dec)
  • Monthly spiritual sharing dialogues at Columbus Public Library.
  • Speakers Bureau provided faith-specific speakers for over 30 interfaith events.
  • Interfaith Open House: Baha’i Center (June), Hindu Temple (July), Butalia Home (Aug)
  • International Festival display booth visited by thousands of Central Ohioans (Nov)
  • Interfaith Calendar & Religion in Ohio book sale & distribution.
  • Hired a paid administrative staff & two work study students to increase effectiveness.
  • Established IACO website www.iaco.org and bi-weekly professional e-newsletter Interfaith Update.
