Christianity
Christianity, with approximately one billion adherents, is based on God’s reconciling work in Jesus of Nazareth. The Bible with sacred Hebraic texts (Old Testament) and Aramaic and Greek texts (New Testament) witnesses Jesus to be fully human and fully God. Through Jesus all people are called to turn from their sin, opposition against God, towards a new life of love made possible by the love which they have met in Jesus. Three groups of Christians may be identified: Eastern Orthodox, Roman Catholic, and Protestant. All center their faith and life in what God has done, is doing, and will do through Jesus. They are impelled by their faith to share the good news about God’s work in Jesus with all people everywhere. Through Jesus, born in a lowly stable in Bethlehem of Judea, two thousand years ago, God has made possible a new humanity that can love God and one another--even enemies--with our heart, mind, and strength.
