Judaism

Judaism dates back 4,000 years to the patriarch Abraham, who was told to leave his fatherland by the one G-d. G-d established a covenant which promised Abraham that his descendants would become a great people and possess the land of Canaan in return for following G-d's teachings. G-d reiterated that covenant, the foundation of Judaism, with Isaac and with Jacob. G-d fulfilled the covenant by redeeming the children of Israel from slavery in Egypt through His servant Moses, revealing His law to the Israelites, and granting them the land. The Jews survived 2,000 years of exile to perpetuate their faith. Jewish faith includes three fundamental concepts: (1) G-d: The loving, merciful and just creator of the universe, Who created humans in His image, Who acts in and through history and includes humans as partners in repairing the world; (2) Torah: an ongoing process of teaching and interpretation including the Jewish bible and rabbinical literature, which guides the Jew in ritual and ethical practice; and (3) Israel: The Jewish community around the world and love for the land of Israel. There are 14 million Jews in the world today.
