2008 IACO Main Event Luncheon
When: Sunday,October 26, 2008, 12:00 noon- 3:00 p.m. (art displays open pre and post main program)
Where: The King Arts Complex Ballroom, 867 Mt. Vernon Ave. Columbus.
The theme of this year's IACO annual main event luncheon is Illuminating Tradition: Our Artistic Heritage.
The program will focus on sharing, celebrating, and coming to a better
understanding of the artistic heritage of Central Ohio's eight major
faith traditions.
The program will feature guest speaker, Dr. Susan Huntington, noted art historian and Distinguished University Professor of The Ohio State University, speaking on Religion in Art; Art in Religion: Understanding Religion Through Art
Professor Huntington is an expert on South Asian and Buddhist art and
culture as well as photographic documentation and has served as vice
provost for graduate studies and dean of OSU's graduate school The OSU
John C. and Susan L. Huntington Photographic Archive which includes
some 300,000 Buddhist, Hindu, Jain, Islamic and other works is the most
comprehensive existing collection of its kind.
The event will also include the Windows of Faith
art exhibit which will feature displays from the eight major Columbus
faith traditions. The exhibits will be present in the ballroom
throughout the meal and open to in-depth viewing both prior and after
the main program.
Facilitators
will lead table discussions centering on the traditional art objects
serving as centerpieces for the mixed-faith table seating. Attendees
in turn are encouraged to bring their own respective "show and tell"
artifacts to their assigned luncheon tables.
Tickets for the Program and Buffet (salmon and vegetarian lasagna entrees) are available for $25 per person.
